A number of bright start-up companies like Scanscout and YuMe are springing up to take advantage of the surge in demand for on-line video, and the advertising opportunities that go with it.
These companies link advertising to video content downloaded from the web. Several approaches are being tested, including searches based on the 'spoken' words in the video.
The speculative forecasts for on-line video advertising are in the region of $750m for 2007. Increasingly consumers are spending more time on-line than they are watching traditional TV. The advertising market on TV networks is worth a massive $110 billion.
