Airwave, the TETRA based network, that provides mobile radio communications for the UK emergency services may be sold off soon.
Airwave provides essential two-way radio coverage for emergency services, particularly the UK police. Other emergency services using Airwaves include ambulance and fire brigades, with the total users reaching 150,000.
Many Government and Local Authorities have bought into the service through Government contracts. The British Government is currently involved in the sell-off process because it has such a vital interest.
Airwave was acquired by the Spanish group Telefonica when it bought O2 a few years ago. Now its looking to divest at a value reported to be about £2billion.
